Carrum Sessional Kindergarten to Close by 2026: Families Urged to Consider Alternatives
Kingston Council has confirmed it will discontinue its sessional kindergarten service at the Carrum Family and Children’s Centre from 2026, focusing instead on the extended day kindergarten program.
Council CEO Peter Bean stated that falling demand for sessional kinder across Carrum, Bonbeach, and Patterson Lakes has driven the change. “This shift responds to the growing need for extended day programs, especially for families where both parents are working,” he said.
While the announcement has disappointed some parents, the council assures families that quality early learning will continue. Those seeking sessional programs are encouraged to consider nearby options at Bonbeach or Patterson Lakes, with central registration available via the Kingston Council website.
The extended day program at Carrum will retain the same teaching staff and curriculum, offering consistency and convenience for local families adjusting to this transition.
