Parents Encouraged to Attend Open Days for 2026 Kindergarten Enrolments
Parents preparing to send their children to kindergarten in 2026 are encouraged to attend two upcoming open days to explore their options and ensure a smooth transition into early childhood education.
The first open day will take place on Wednesday, March 5, from 5-7 pm, and the second on Saturday, May 3, from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm. These sessions will give families a chance to visit different kindergartens, meet educators, and gather essential information about programs.
Children who turn three years old by April 30, 2026, will be eligible for a kindergarten program in 2026. Online registrations open on March 11, and parents have until May 31 to submit applications to be included in the first round of offers. Importantly, placements are not allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so families are encouraged to take their time exploring their options.
Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten?
Determining kindergarten readiness isn’t just about intelligence or parenting style—it’s about a child’s developmental stage. The council advises parents to consider the following factors:
- Can your child separate from you with minimal distress, especially with educator support?
- Can your child ask for help and communicate effectively?
- Can your child share and engage positively with a group of up to 33 children?
- Is your child independent in feeding themselves and going to the toilet?
Kindergarten lays the foundation for lifelong learning, and Mayor Mia Shaw encourages families to take the time to find the right program for their child’s needs.
