The Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) is the curriculum framework for kindergarten programs in Victoria, Australia. It is designed to guide early childhood professionals in providing high-quality education and care to children from birth to 8 years old.

The VEYLDF is based on five learning outcomes that reflect the key areas of children’s learning and development:

Identity: Children have a strong sense of identity
Community: Children are connected with and contribute to their world
Wellbeing: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
Learning: Children are confident and involved learners
Communication: Children are effective communicators
The VEYLDF also includes three key pedagogical practices that guide teaching and learning in kindergarten programs:

Play-based learning: Children learn through play and exploration
Responsive teaching: Teachers observe and respond to children’s interests, strengths, and needs
Intentional teaching: Teachers plan and provide intentional learning experiences to support children’s learning and development
Kindergarten programs in Victoria are required to use the VEYLDF as the basis for their curriculum and to provide a play-based learning environment that is responsive to the needs of individual children. Teachers are also required to assess and report on children’s learning and development using the VEYLDF.
