Yarra City Council Celebrates First Nations Heritage with Opening of Yallabirrang Kindergarten

The Yarra City Council has opened Yallabirrang Kindergarten at Collingwood College, celebrating First Nations heritage. The kindergarten’s name, “Yallabirrang,” means “Collingwood” in the Woi-Wurrung language, chosen in consultation with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation. The facility offers free sessional kindergarten for 3- and 4-year-olds, supported by significant funding from the Victorian Government, Yarra City Council, and Collingwood College. This initiative underscores Yarra’s commitment to reconciliation and cultural recognition.
